About Joseph E. Heyward II
A native of Florence, South Carolina, Joe began playing the saxophone at age 10. Joe spent much of the late 1980’s and 1990’s performing in local and statewide talent shows on the east coast, and was a five-time winner of the Fountain Bleau Night Club weekly talent show (hosted by WWDM FM 101.3 -Columbia, SC), and a special guest artist at the Black Male Showcase - USA Image Awards (Columbia, SC).
Joe also performed at the 87th, 89th, and 91st Anniversary Conventions for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., which he is a life member of. Over the years, Joe has also performed for weddings, corporate functions, reunions, church events, and more.
In addition to his live performances, Joe entered the studio and recorded his first demo album in 1996. He co-wrote the title track, "In Search Of”. Other songs recorded include renditions of Brian McKnight's - "One Last Cry", The Spinners’ – “I’ll Be Around”, and Janet Jackson's - "That's the Way Love Goes".
He has recorded with V&G Jazz Ensemble of Indianapolis, and is part of the music ministry at University United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.
